No longer are we content choosing one career path and sticking with it, working simply for the sake of money, even making purchases without considering a company’s mission. We’re hungry for purpose-driven lives. But merely knowing this isn’t enough. How do we know what our purpose is? And even if we know, how do we go about pursuing it?

Here are seven actions you can take, one each day for a week, to ignite your passion and find your purpose. It’s going to take time and effort, but trust me, when you feel the swell of excitement you get from doing what you love, you’ll never go back.

Day 1: Get Quiet. Our lives are filled with noise. No wonder we have a hard time identifying our passions! Today, slow down. Set time aside to find a quiet place with your notebook and reflect: What brings you immense joy? What would you like to have accomplished by the end of your life? What unique things do you have to offer to the world? And, most importantly, why?

Day 2: Get Educated. Now that you have some ideas dig deeper. What are the necessary steps on this path? If you want to start a company or write a book, research the entire process and determine the mile markers. Then set some realistic goals for yourself over the next few months.

Day 3: Create the Conditions. It’s easy to invent millions of reasons why we can’t accomplish something. Today this stops. Take a realistic look at your schedule. Where can you find time for your passion? Think early mornings with a steaming cup of tea. What conditions do you need to be successful and how can you create them?

Day 4: Invite Confidence. One of your most important allies is confidence, a tool you can actively cultivate. Identify what emboldens you. Is it telling people you’re a writer? Reciting a positive incantation each morning or when you’re feeling doubtful? Today, make a plan for how you’ll invite confidence. It doesn’t always come on its own!

Day 5: Radical Self-Care. To fulfill your potential, you need to be your best self, body, mind, and spirit. Decide what this looks like. What are your non-negotiables – moving your body, meditating, sleeping, eating healthy, etc. – and how will you prioritize them? Our passions can be all consuming, so commit to finding balance, and make time to shower!

Day 6: Find Community. We can’t do this alone, and we don’t have to. Who’s your community? Whether it’s an author in your field, a thought leader, blogger, or a local group, find the people you can turn to (figuratively or literally) when things get tough. Living a purposeful life can feel vulnerable, and it’s important to be reminded we’re not alone!

Day 7: Start. We can go around in circles planning and reflecting and mapping out our dreams. But at the end of the day, the most important thing to do is start. Not entirely sure if this is your passion? Start. Don’t feel like you have the credentials? Start. Worried about what other people will think? Start. Every single day begins with the biggest hurdle: starting. Once you do, you’ll be amazed how many things fall into place. Most challenges can only be dealt with when you’re in the thick of it, so engaged there’s no option but to try, there’s no choice but to feel successful, no matter what happens. Because today, you woke up and chose to start.
